A few years ago, I started sharing on Instagram not only throwbacks of my work but also a “re-edit” of that throwback. It was fun, but I wanted to do more. So I thought I would not only share the original edit but the SOOC (straight out of camera), as well as the new edit. I’m really excited to do this because I am a firm believer that we can always grow and learn. Learn from ourselves, as well as others. I will be looking at the SOOC with a critical eye because I feel I will grow that way. Then I will go over the original edit and my new edit. I’ve learned SO MUCH and continue to learn and branch out in my craft, so my new edits may be drastically different, or they may be similar if I feel that the edit was true to the image. The first round of this I have chosen an image from a maternity session back in 2017. Not a big difference in time, but I have grown to know more and am excited to share my growth with you! I LOVE maternity photography!! There is something so magical about the […]
Here is part two of John and Natalie (and Domino’s) engagement session! John and Natalie had a friends land we used for this session. Let me just say, I could shoot session on this land everyday and never grow tired of it! Check out some of my favorites from their session and the beautiful scenery!
Newborn photography is something that, in the last five or so years, has really grown in popularity! I’ve been fortunate enough to have learned from some of today’s most sought after newborn photographers including Bethney Backhaus, Erin Elizabeth, and Ana Brandt. I absolutely LOVE lifestyle type newborn sessions, with a mixture of poses added in. I always keep baby in mind, their safety (first and foremost), their comfort, and their individual abilities. For example, not all babies can do the froggy pose, not all babies like being swaddled and wrapped, every baby has their own tolerances and it is our job as newborn photographers to find those tolerances and give parents beautiful, lasting images.
A little background into my newborn photography history… I’ve been working with babes for almost five years. Over the last three years, I’ve really buckled down to learn everything I can from safety (most important!), poses, props, and more. I’ve studied under internationally famous photographers like Ana Brandt, and Erin Elizabeth. To more nationally known artists like Bethney Backhaus. You name it, I’ve learned it. Through this journey I have discovered my absolute favorite style of newborn photography. That is baby led, naturally minimal, classic, lifestyle posing. What does this mean? Let me explain… minimal props, simplistic poses, natural lighting, neutral color palettes, etc etc. While I am trained and qualified to do those absolutely adorbs poses like the frog, potato, taco, and the other yummy food groups, it’s just not my go to anymore. Please don’t take this as you can’t come to me with your baby if that’s what you want! I will work to accommodate all parents wishes, within their babies capability and comfort in mind. Without further ado, allow me to introduce.. Kix Lucas! He’s a bit shy… <3
I’ve had the pleasure of working with this family for quite some time now, this sweet boy I met when he was just 3 months old! When they arrived for their session they had brought some books for Abram to use in his pictures, which I LOVED! I always encourage clients to bring anything of importance to their sessions to really make it their own. It took me a minute to catch on, but after seeing the title a few times I got SO EXCITED for them! Congratulations to the Spencer family! Soon to be adding one more :).
Well, it’s August! I had this crazy idea of a New Year’s Resolution, that idea was to write a blog on my website AT LEAST once a month… Well… we are in month 8… and I won’t go into how many blogs I haven’t written I’ll just renew my resolution and start fresh! What better way to start fresh than with a blog about NEW LIFE! This gorgeous mamma modeled for me with her first pregnancy, and this is baby number two! Check out these favs! I finally got to use the Ramada Inn demo site as a background! What do you think? I LOVE it!
Ahhh… babies. Creating life and carrying a little heart beat inside your body is such a wonderful experience. I recently had the pleasure of documenting this special time for Elizabeth and Scott. This darling duo met in kindergarten, dated for a day in first grade only to be heartbroken and single by recess. Luckily, they remained dear friends and gave the relationship another go their senior year in high school. Marriage came soon after and now they are blossoming with family life! Elizabeth had won the Instagram Give-Away last fall and decided to use it for her maternity session! Make sure you follow me on Instagram and Facebook to be notified of such specials 🙂 Nine times out of ten, I’ll pick the location for the photo session based off the wardrobe choices and the personal preference of my clients. When Elizabeth and I were discussing options, it was decided we would have part of their session at one of the nature trails in Hays, Kansas. Little did I know that this particular trail had a sentimental meaning for the two! Dear Scott had proposed to Elizabeth on the very same trail! This couple is absolutely adorable and was […]
My first blog of 2017… not the walk down memory lane for weddings of 2016 like I had planned… but a blog about love nonetheless. Meet John, Natalie, and their furry friend Domino. A fun loving and handsome family that I had the privilege of working with just last weekend. I’ve known John for a few years, we use to work with each other at a local restaurant and bar, and Natalie was a joy to meet and visit with. Domino wasn’t to sure about me but he didn’t bark, which I was told he often did with strangers… he must of smelled all my furry friends and knew I could be trusted with his family. We couldn’t of asked for better weather on the eve of our session.. maybe a little less wind, maybe a little less chill in the air.. okay so we could of asked for a few nicer things but all in all it was a beautiful evening. Especially in mid February in Kansas! For this particular session, they were after only a handful of poses to stick on their “Save the Dates” to be sent out ASAP. We’ve talked about scheduling a full session sometime […]
Hello all you lovelies! I’ve decided to give this whole blog thing a go. It’s been some time since I have written about my thoughts, my work, my passions and maybe that’s just what the world needs. 🙂 Allow me to start by asking, do any of you blog? If so, post it below so I can follow along with your thoughts! I love networking and it’s a game changer in this day and age. Okay and on to the blog… how about a little bit about myself? Well I am nearing the big 30 every year, I have a wonderful family that I cannot get enough of and we are growing +1 this year! Such an exciting time. I graduated from FHSU in 2013 and learned a lot from all the different courses I took, I have a vast interest so I chose to use my college time exploring any and all interests I had that semester. Which led to a longer time in college, but hey, I knew that from the get-go and was a-okay with it! My degree however, is in studio art with an emphasis on photography. I also took a handful of classes in graphic […]
